While the parents may get excited for preparing their nursery for their baby, many do not think about the safety issues surrounding baby bedding. Color schemes and comforters can take up a lot of time and effort, but those items can pose a threat to your baby; here’s how you can keep your child’s crib good-looking, safe, and comfortable at the same time.
To save money on baby bedding, only purchase fitted sheets and a light weight blanket for your newborn. Comforters will probably be unnecessary until your child is around two years old, so keep this in mind when buying a set. Never cover an infant (age 0-12 months) with a heavy blanket–this is a suffocation hazard, and it is possible for the child to overheat in his or her sleep.
You should monitor the nursery’s temperature to prevent the use of heavy blankets, and you should have the baby wear lightweight one-piece pajamas in the summer and thicker sleep outfits or wearable blankets during the winter.
